About the Shelby Daytona Coupe
The Shelby Daytona Coupe is widely regarded as one of the most important American competition cars ever created. Built by Shelby American and designed by Peter Brock, the Daytona Coupe was developed to give the Cobra platform the aerodynamic efficiency needed to compete against Ferrari on high-speed international circuits.
While the open Cobra roadsters were powerful and successful, they faced a major aerodynamic disadvantage on long straights. The Daytona Coupe's enclosed fastback body transformed the Cobra into a world-class GT racer capable of competing at the highest level of international endurance racing.
In 1965, Shelby American captured the FIA World Manufacturers Championship for GT cars, defeating Ferrari and becoming the first American manufacturer to win that title. With only six original Daytona Coupes built, the car remains one of the rarest, most valuable, and most celebrated American race cars in history.
