About the Ford GT40 Mk IV

The Ford GT40 Mk IV was developed as an advanced evolution of Ford’s Le Mans program. Built around a lightweight honeycomb aluminum chassis and powered by Ford’s 427 cubic-inch V8, the Mk IV was created to compete at the highest level of international endurance racing.

Its greatest moment came at the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the #1 GT40 Mk IV driven by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt captured overall victory. The result cemented Ford’s dominance during one of the most famous manufacturer rivalries in motorsports history.

Today, the Ford GT40 Mk IV remains one of the most significant American race cars ever produced and one of the defining symbols of Ford’s victory over Ferrari at Le Mans.
